Ditch the Gym

Listen, not every workout needs to be confined to four walls, fancy equipment, or a gym membership. Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your body and mind is to get outside, move around, and soak up some sunlight!

Here’s the deal, we spend way too much time indoors, glued to screens, and breathing stale (musty) air. That’s not just boring, it’s a fast track to feeling sluggish. Fresh air and natural sunlight can do wonders! Plus, your body needs that vitamin D, and guess what? Your skin knows how to handle the sun. So, don’t overdo it with sunscreen—let your skin absorb some of those rays before you lather up.

Now, let’s have some fun. Here are five simple outdoor activities to get you moving:

  1. Hill Sprints: Find a small mound or hill in your neighborhood or local park. Sprint up, walk down. Repeat. It’ll kick your ass in the best way possible.

  2. Play Chase with Your Dog: If you’ve got a dog, use them as your workout buddy. Run around, play fetch, and let that energy burn. No dog? Borrow a friend’s—trust me, they won’t mind (TAKE GEM STONE!!!)

  3. Bodyweight Circuits in the Park: Hit the park and use what’s around you. Benches for step-ups, monkey bars for pull-ups, and open space for squats and lunges. Make it a circuit and keep the heart rate up.

  4. Hiking or Trail Walking: Find a local trail and get walking. The uneven terrain works different muscles, and being in nature clears your mind like nothing else. There's PLENTY in the Austin area.

  5. Kayaking or Paddleboarding: If you’re near water, hit the lake or river. It’s a full-body workout that’s low-impact and seriously fun. Super affordable now days too!


Bottom line: moving outside isn’t just about burning calories—it’s about feeling alive and getting away from the ordinary. Get out there, get some sun, and let your body do what it’s made to do.
